Pekalongan – Recently, nursing students from Diponegoro University actively participated in a drug abuse prevention education program targeted for 10th-grade students at SMAN 1 Talun in Kalirejo Village, Pekalongan. The primary aim of this program was to prevent and reduce drug abuse in Indonesia, especially within the specific community.
This initiative was carried out as part of the Community Service Program (KKN) for Team II of Diponegoro University for the 2022/2023 academic year. The program was conducted on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 07:30 AM local time at SMAN 1 Talun.
The event included a comprehensive educational session covering topics such as the definition of drugs, the distinction between narcotics and psychotropics, the consequences of drug abuse on health, and practical tips for avoiding drug abuse. Following the educational session, nursing students distributed informative leaflets to the 10th-grade students and displayed posters within the school premises for wider dissemination of the information to other students.
Providing education on differentiating narcotics from psychotropics was of paramount importance for the 10th-grade students of SMAN 1 Talun, enabling them to identify various types of narcotics and make informed decisions if ever confronted by strangers offering such substances. Additionally, students were made aware of the adverse health effects resulting from drug abuse, including fatigue, diminished enthusiasm, and increased anxiety. Subsequently, the nursing students offered valuable advice to the 10th-grade students on safeguarding themselves against the perils of illegal drugs.
The program commenced with the students introducing themselves to the 10th-grade students, followed by the educational session and an interactive question-and-answer segment. The program proceeded smoothly, with students actively engaging and posing questions pertaining to the material presented by the KKN students. It is hoped that this effort will serve as a catalyst, motivating the community, particularly the students of SMAN 1 Talun, to recognize the hazards and repercussions of drug abuse, particularly in terms of health. The ultimate goal is to stem the tide of drug abuse in Kalirejo Village, allowing students to focus on their aspirations and dreams.
To conclude the session, posters outlining the dangers of drug abuse were affixed to the school’s bulletin board at SMAN 1 Talun, and informative leaflets were distributed to the 10th-grade students. These actions were taken to facilitate further reading and understanding of the health-related consequences of drug abuse among the students. Furthermore, the poster placement aimed to expand the educational knowledge of students who may not have received direct presentations from Diponegoro University’s Team II KKN regarding the dangers of drug abuse.
